2013 SUMMER TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE

The Howard University Summer Transportation Institute (HUSTI) program is designed to attract High School students to career fields of transportation. STI provides a stimulating introduction to all modes of transportation through hands-on projects, problem-solving techniques, field trips, and classroom and enrichment activities. Participants will gain skills in mathematics, science and technology.

The goal of the program is to expose participants to a series of academic experiences designed to motivate them toward professions in the transportation industry. Students will have an opportunity to interact with University staff and various professionals in the field of transportation. This is non-residential, no-cost program funded by the Federal Highway Administration(FWHA) and the District Department of Transportation(DDOT).

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Location: Howard University
Cost: Free Admission and no application or activity fees
Program: 4-week Non-Residential program – June 24, 2013 – July 21, 2013
Orientation: Sunday June 23, 2013, 3:00 pm; Parents\Guardians and students must attend
Free Activities: Lunch provided daily, Hands-on projects, Classroom Activities, Field Trips, Stipend upon completion
Time: Monday - Thursday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm; Friday, 9:00am - 2:00pm

SUMMARY OF PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • Submit completed Application Packet
  • Must be entering 9th, 10th , 11th and 12th Grade during the 2013-2014 School year
  • Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA
  • Have completed or be enrolled in pre-Algebra
  • Official Transcript
  • Two Recommendations:
    • One letter must come from a math, science or technology instructor.
    • One must come from a school counselor.
    • Schools submitting more than one applicant can submit a single letter of recommendation from the school counselor.
