The Howard University Transportation Research Center (HUTRC) was established in 1998 and ishoused in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Computer Sciences at Howard University. HUTRC serves as a standing research resource for assisting the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT), its primary sponsor, in fulfilling its mission of providing quality and efficient transportation-related services to the residents and visitors of Washington, DC. Since its inception, HUTRC’s activities have included the participation of faculty from the Departments of Architecture Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Business Administration in a variety of projects, in the form of research or investigations. HUTRC utilizes undergraduate and graduate students on sponsored projects conducted at the Center.

HUTRC promotes the advancement of engineering and policy research in support of the transportation needs of the urban metropolitan environment. HUTRC supports the continued academic advancement of the University’s faculty and its graduate fellows through their participation as research associates, project managers and team members on research projects of disciplinary and interdisciplinary significance. HUTRC provides information dissemination, acting as clearinghouse on publications and documents developed by the Center in fulfilling its overall mission
